That means a Chromebook typically can’t handle 500 browser tabs and other intensive tasks. Many of them are affordable, low-end machines. They aren’t powerhouses…though there are exceptions.Still, most options require significant sacrifices, and/or pretty fast internet. Photographers could live off the Lightroom Android app and other mobile editing options, and there are some ways to edit video. Even if you pay big bucks for one of the powerful machines, most popular creative software isn’t available for Chrome OS. Unfortunately, most of these devices aren’t powerful enough for 3D editing. Google Drive is baked in, and there are ways to get Microsoft Office and Skype working. That’s unless you’re a writer, in which case they work wonderfully. These computers aren’t always an excellent option for creative professionals.Still, the experience, while pretty good, isn’t as polished as in Windows machines. Our own Andrew Grush has expressed his thoughts on gaming Chromebooks, and actually managed to play games locally using Steam Beta. Cloud gaming services require an excellent internet connection, though. In fact, some newer Chromebooks are built with cloud gaming in mind, and these even have gamer aesthetics. But if you’re looking to play high-profile PC games, you should look elsewhere, unless you can live with cloud gaming from services like Stadia and GeForce Now. Sure, Chrome OS laptops have Android app support, so mobile gaming is an option. Here are some particular situations where they aren’t the best option: The operating system is straightforward, and mobile hardware is getting very capable.īasically, Chrome OS is excellent unless you’re using it for certain types of tasks. These lightweight Chrome OS computers can operate very efficiently. They’re faster! You need a Windows PC with a lot of power to meet Chromebook performance.Premium options can cost quite a lot, but those aren’t for everyone. It’s also led to their growing popularity in the low-end segment of the portable computer market. This has been a major reason why the education community has adopted them. Chromebooks are often relatively more affordable than Windows laptops with the same processor and similar specifications. Most of these machines, especially the cheaper ones, will give you a pretty decent battery life. Chrome OS is relatively light compared to Windows, which shows when you’re using a Chrome OS laptop for its intended usage. They generally have a better battery life than similarly-priced laptops. They’re the ideal machines for such work, especially as more and more work in these use cases has moved online with services like Google Docs Editors suite and Office 365, among others. From the typical work-from-home workflows, including online classes and meetings, to word processing and spreadsheets, Chromebooks do it all. Chromebooks do well with work that must mostly be done in a browser.
She’s literally displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried to leave in her own past to help her. August’s subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon, she discovers there’s one big problem: Jane doesn’t just look like an old school punk rocker. Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile, showing up in a leather jacket to save August’s day when she needed it most. Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.īut then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. "Narrator Natalie Naudus brings a quiet intensity to this genre-crossing audiobook.the perfect fit for a tale of queer joy, first love, and self-discovery." ( BookPage, s tarred review) "Lives are remade in McQuiston's LGBTQ, paranormal rom-com. So…yes.2021 New York Times Book Review Notable Books of the YearĢ021 Time Magazine Best Books of the YearĢ021 Kirkus Reviews Best Books of the Year As a note for people, this book does have explicit steamy scenes. I think the romance was well developed and absolutely adorable. I very much enjoyed the relationship between Jane and August. I’m not sure I could pick a favorite side character. I especially liked how it all came together in the end. I like how they all interacted and their stories that we get briefly. But I feel that it is missing something for me. I just wish…I’m not sure what else I wanted from her. I know August is supposed to be bi, and as a bi person and fat, I love her for it. But as I said previously, at times it feels like the pacing doesn’t work and we’re not getting any progression which doesn’t help August’s character at all. We get to see her POV more than anyone else’s and it is her story that drives the book. She was relatable to me in many ways, and I think she was the perfect character for the story to focus on and around. We’ve got Asian characters, Black characters, trans characters, queer characters and I do believe August is fat, so fat characters as well. I think that they accomplish this very well. It feels like McQuiston is really trying to reach the largest audience and most diverse one. As always, there is a lot of diversity in this series. Now that I’ve said that, there are some things that this book does that RWRB did as well, and did splendidly. Let me make it very clear this book is still fabulous and a lot of people will love it but I think overall it had some issues because I feel RWRB was a lot to beat. I really wanted to be like 10000/5 stars, but unfortunately, for me, that isn’t the case. This book also encompassed things I liked – more so than RWRB, so why did I like this one less than RWRB? My only conclusion is that I felt RWRB had more heart than OLS did. I had hoped that One Last Stop would follow in those footsteps. I can’t articulate what resonated about it with me. When I read Red, White and Royal Blue it was at the right time, right place. It took me some time to evaluate how I felt about this book. Maybe it’s time to start believing in some things, after all. For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. In the 20th century, the word usually refers to a long blouse. Even after secular fashions changed, the tunic was retained in ecclesiastical vestments such as the alb and dalmatic. The garment was worn into the European Middle Ages by both laity and clergy until finally replaced by the fitted body garment in the 14th century. Tunics that were worn by Roman senators and other dignitaries were decorated with broad purple stripes, and children’s tunics were often decorated with various colours. It was made of dark or light linen or white wool. Essentially an undergarment, it was usually covered by a mantle but might be worn alone by the young or by workingmen. This Armor cannot be dyed, but it can be upgraded by the Great Fairy Fountains. It reached to the knees or lower, was with or without sleeves, belted at the waist, and held at the shoulders by clasps. The Champion's Tunic is Armor in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It was fashioned from two pieces of linen sewn up the sides and across the top, with holes left for the head and arms. This venue has been permanently closed Come Experience the Fun at Kingpin Darling Harbour Why: Ableton Live slightly edges out REAPER according to ratings on G2, one of the most trusted software comparison platforms on the web.REAPER is excellent for the mechanics of mixing, but with no included sound library, it falls short in this category. This vast sound library, paired with its powerful editing tools, means you’re ready to start mixing right away without any additional downloads or software. It has a massive built-in library of sounds to choose when you want to sample, loop and mix. Why: Ok, here’s an area where Ableton Live shines.Overall, REAPER is simply the more robust program for live recording tools, while Ableton has chosen to focus more on the mixing and mastering elements. It’s also an impressively stable platform, which is critical when working with live recording. Its MIDI Overlay feature makes it easy to link keyboard shortcuts to essential commands for live editing during recording sessions. Why: Again, REAPER’s limitless customization options and powerful studio tools make it the winner in the audio recording category.Overall, with the addition of plugins and a little customization, REAPER can quickly overtake Ableton in overall sound editing capability for a fraction of the cost. It supports a total number of editing tracks, which is a huge win for anyone who makes complex, multi-layer mixes. Why: Thanks to REAPER’s robust set of tools and unlimited workspace customizations, it edges out Ableton a bit when it comes to general sound editing functionality. This isn’t to say that Ableton doesn’t have high-quality support, but REAPER’s vast array of resources and robust community that are happy to jump in and solve other user’s problems edge it out in this category. Why: Both platforms have excellent support teams, but the REAPER team has gone above and beyond to support their platform and answer any questions or problems that may arise. However, this isn’t a huge dealbreaker, and while REAPER may slightly edge it out in this category, Ableton is still a highly intuitive platform. Ableton requires you to play by its rules a bit more, which means that you’ll have to adapt to its workflow a bit more than the other way around. While REAPER is pretty bare-bones to start, if you have a basic understanding of DAWs and their workflow, you’ll find REAPER pretty easy to start customizing and using. Why: This is a category that many users will argue over, but “ease of use” in this case will ultimately come down to how comfortable a user is with manipulating open-source software. It’s time to put these programs up against each other and see which ones excel in each of our key categories: Ableton Live also clocks in at a price point closer to other professional DAWs vs. That being said, it’s a clean, well-organized interface that still allows for dozens of plugins that will enable you to customize the platform to fit your needs and workflow. On the other hand, Ableton Live is a traditional closed-source software program where you play by the software designers’ rules. REAPER takes a “build your own features” approach by providing users with a very basic interface that allows you to plug-in 3rd party VSTs and create your own scripts for a fully customized workflow experience. The key differences between REAPER and Ableton Live come down to their workflow and price. The Main Differences Between REAPER and Ableton Live They both allow you to mix recorded media as well as MIDI inputs for a blend of natural and digital sound. REAPER and Ableton Live are both DAWs that allow you to record, edit, and mix digital audio. So, without further ado, welcome to the REAPER vs. We’re putting them head-to-head in this guide to see which one reigns supreme in each of our key categories. These programs are packed with features perfect for live and electronic music production, but each stands out in different key feature areas. However, there are two names in DAWs that come up time and time again when producers are looking for a platform to work with: REAPER and Ableton Live. Never before have there been so many options available, and with dizzying lists of features, it can feel nearly impossible to choose the right one for your studio. However, choosing the best DAW can be one of the most headache-inducing challenges for amateurs and pros alike. It’s the command center where all musical ideas find their shape and combine to create a polished final product. A solid digital audio workstation (DAW) is one of the most critical tools in an artist’s toolbelt in electronic music production. These 3 versatile floor tools look very similar, the attachments are universal, but these machines are not exactly the same, here are some differences: Leading white space is ignored without warning, as too are any trailing non-digits, such as a decimal point ( oct only handles non-negative integers, not negative integers or floating point). Although Perl automatically converts strings into numbers as needed, this automatic conversion assumes base 10. Other Info - The way the upstream percona-toolkit repository works is they have these perl modules that are statically 'compiled in' to the various tool perl scripts, with both the source libraries and that resulting static tool committed to git. The oct function is commonly used when a string such as 644 needs to be converted into a file mode, for example. To go the other way (produce a number in octal), use sprintf or printf: my $dec_perms = (stat("filename")) & 07777 Leading whitespace is ignored in all three cases.) The following will handle decimal, binary, octal, and hex in standard Perl notation: $val = oct($val) if $val =~ /^0/ It can currently be called as follow: setlogsock (socktype) setlogsock (socktype, streamlocation) (added in Perl 5.00402) setlogsock (socktype, streamlocation, socktimeout) (added in Sys::Syslog 0.25) setlogsock (\options) (added in Sys::Syslog 0. If EXPR starts off with 0b or b, it is interpreted as a binary string. Being Perl-specific, this function has evolved along time. (If EXPR happens to start off with 0x or x, interprets it as a hex string. Each octal digit may be preceded by a single underscore, which will be ignored. An octal string consists of octal digits and, as of Perl 5.33.5, an optional 0o or o prefix. Lets take the same example that we have seen above in double q operator.Interprets EXPR as an octal string and returns the corresponding value. The special characters present inside it does not interpolate. Single q operator works like single quotes. See I have not used the escape sequences for the double quotes and brackets. Output: My name is "Chaitanya" and I like brackets () Print qq(My name is "$name" and I like brackets ()\n) The advantage of doing this is that we need not to worry about using escape sequences for double quotes(“) and brackets. We can replace the double quotes that we use to enclose a string with the double q operator. Output: I like to watch "The Walking Dead" Double q operator – qq My $say = "I like to watch \"The Walking Dead\"" We will use the same approach by escaping the quotes using \. Lets say we want to display a String in Perl and the string itself has a double quotes in it. We know that a text inside double quotes is treated as string in Perl. My $say = 'I do like to use backslash \\' Īs you can see we have \ displayed in the output. Lets take an example to understand this: use strict For this, you would want to escape the backslash. In the above examples, we have used the backslash to escape the special characters $ and There may be a case where you would want to display the backslash in the output. $msg: I am Negan How to escape the escape character backslash (\) # escaping the first dollar sign but not escaping the second In case you want to escape the $ sign and avoid the interpolation, use the same trick we have done above – prefix it with backslash. Output: Escaping the $ sign in double quote stringsĪs we already know that dollar sign interpolates to the value of the variable. # no backslash needed as interpolation does not In case of single quotes no need to use the the escape sequence because interpolation doesn’t happen in single quote strings. In the following example if we do not place the backslash before the then instead of displaying the email, it would throw an error because it will consider as an array. As we already know that when we place the special characters inside double quote strings then perl tries to interpolate it. The character has a special meaning in perl. In this guide, we will discuss the escape characters that will help us achieve desired output in certain cases. In the previous tutorial we have learned how to work with Strings in Perl. This accident will always remain controversial due to malfeasance and corruption. He didn’t really stand a chance as he was a small cog in a very large wheel. Justice Mahon was a champion for his efforts to expose the rot and make people accountable. The then Government of the day and Air New Zealand should’ve been held to account. That evening they were joined by the recovery team from New Zealand, but bad weather hampered search efforts for the next two days.I’ve started threads on this subject several years ago. The men established a ‘base camp’ for the recovery operation: eight polar tents, sleeping bags and food for 20 people for a few days. They were confronted by a horrific scene scattered with personal possessions and human remains. The first men at the crash site on the morning of 29 November 1979 were New Zealand mountaineers Daryll Thompson, Hugh Logan and Keith Woodford. With the wreckage located, the priorities became the search for survivors and the two flight recorders. The tragedy ultimately became New Zealand’s worst air disaster - a distinction it still holds, 30 years later. No apparent survivors.” This statement confirmed the worst fears of the New Zealand public, the families of the victims, and Air New Zealand. The crew reported: “Debris at crash site being blown by wind. They radioed the position to their commanders in Antarctica, along with the recommendation to dispatch a helicopter to the crash site ASAP.Īt 1.25am on November 29 1979, the charred wreckage was formally identified as the remains of flight TE901 by an American helicopter, GENTLE 17, which could not land at the crash site due to poor surface conditions. However, due to weather conditions they could not land at the site. The crew established it was likely to be the remains of TE901. It was 11.50pm when Commander Victor Pesces and the crew of his ski-equipped C-130 Hercules sighted a black ‘smear’ on the slopes of Mt Erebus about 10 miles away. Situation reports, such as the one below, update commanders on current progress and record the resources used in a search.ĪNZ CEO Morrie Davis announcing that TE901 was believed lost, 28 November 1979.Īt an Air New Zealand press conference at 10.00pm, CEO Morrie Davis officially announced that flight TE901 was believed lost because, by then, it had exhausted its fuel supply. Over the course of the evening, the American military sent several situation report updates (SitReps) to their commanders in the United States and to key people in New Zealand. The revised area included the east and west of Ross Island where, later that night, they found the wreckage. In response to the lack of success in locating the aircraft, the decision was made to expand the search area. Information available to the relatives at the airports was limited to, “The flight is late and we have not been able to reach them on the radio since midday.” (Hickson, 1980).
